East Side Story

This month’s Dayton’s Bluff District Forum has an article about a West Side Story adaptation the Coen Brothers are taking on, but instead of NYC it’ll be mostly shot in Dayton’s Bluff and instead of West Side Story it’ll be called East Side Story.

The story’s central drama, a cross-cultural love affair, will bloom between a young Latina woman and a Hmong teenager. Some of the songs have already been written and feature pretty awesome titles like, “Seventh Street Salsa,” “Meeting Maria on Maria,” and “I’m in Love with a Man of the Asian Persuasion.” This version of the musical will include songs in Hmong.

Location shoots will include CLUES, Mounds Theater, St Johns Church (which has just announced it will be closed by July 2013) and the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary. The Coens said they’ll be looking for local talent so get your head shots and audition pants on. A preliminary gathering for tryouts will be held at a temp office at 788 E 7th St on April 1st at 7:00pm.
